Johnny Depp Dresses As Captain Jack Sparrow, Visits Sick Children
Johnny Depp likes to dress up as his famed Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow and then drop-in unexpectedly at various children’s hospitals.
According to film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the popular actor always travels with his famous Jack Sparrow costume in tow. When he comes about a children’s hospital in the area where he is traveling he dresses up as Sparrow and makes unannounced visits.
Speaking at the Produced By conference Bruckheimer says of Johnny Depp’s charity: “He knows he is a very fortunate person and he wants to give back.”
Johnny Depp has been playing the Captain Jack Sparrow character for a long-time, appearing in four blockbuster films for Pirates of the Caribbean.
Depp doesn’t just appear for sick children. Back in 2010, 9-year-old Beatrice Delap invited Depp to her school in London after she learned that he was filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at the nearby Old Royal Naval College.
Depp was invited by teachers at Meridian Primary School in Greenwich, and he showed up at a school assembly in his full Captain Jack Sparrow costume. After his appearance, one teacher proclaimed:
”It was the most exciting school day ever. I had the idea to write the letter last week after me and a friend went to see the film set. Pat from the school office delivered it. Yesterday the school called us in for a special assembly at the end of the day. They told us there had been a couple of incidents in the playground.”
Johnny Depp recently turned 50 and has announced that a Pirates of the Caribbean 5 film is in the works. Disney hopes to release the newest member of the franchise in 2015.
The actor also wants everyone to know that Tonto really isn’t a “sidekick” to the Lone Ranger.
