“Survivor” producer detained in Cancun after wife found dead
Survivor producer Bruce Beresford-Redman is being detained in Cancun after his missing wife Monica Beresford-Redman’s body was found in a sewer.
Beresford-Redman was reported missing Monday by her sister Carla Burgos, after she failed to return from a shopping trip. The Beresford-Redmans had been staying at the Moon Palace Hotel in Cancun when Beresford-Redman disappeared. CBS affiliate KCAL spoke briefly with Beresford-Redman before his wife’s body was discovered today:
“I’m very hopeful someone will find my wife very soon. She still hasn’t been located and we’re looking,” he told the station.
After Monica’s body was discovered, state prosecutor for the Mexican state of Quintana Roo Francisco Alor told Mexican press that Bruce was the prime suspect in her murder but offered no details:
“The husband seems to be responsible,” he said.
Witnesses reportedly told press that the couple were spotted arguing the day before Monica Beresford-Redman was last seen alive.
A witness at the hotel saw the couple arguing Sunday, a local official told the Associated Press. Beresford-Redman told police Tuesday that his wife left the hotel the previous day and never returned, the official said.
