Bristol Palin, Joan Rivers Trade Lives On ‘Celebrity Wife Swap’
Bristol Palin and Joan Rivers will be trading lives on the summer premiere of Celebrity Wife Swap, ABC announced Thursday.
Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, and Palin’s sister, Willow, will also be trading lives. The Rivers will head to Wasilla, Alaska, to help raise Palin’s 4-year-old son, Tripp. The Palin daughters will move to Joan Rivers’ Los Angeles home, which doubles as a TV production office. Bristol Palin will have to fill in as executive producer of Fashion Police, and help care for Melissa Rivers’ 12-year-old son, Cooper.
The new season of Celebrity Wife Swap will also include the girlfriend and wife of former WWE wrestlers “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair on June 30 and actress Nia Peeples and singer Tiffany on July 7. The Rivers-Palin season premiere will air June 23.
This is the latest reality series for Bristol Palin, who competed in seasons 11 and 15 of Dancing with the Stars. Palin and her professional partner Mark Ballas were voted off in the fourth week the first time around, and made it to third place in season 15, losing to actress Jennifer Grey and her professional partner Derek Hough.
“Well, we did it, we made it to week four, and I’m happy with that,” Palin said of her first DWTS loss. “And I had an awesome time, and an awesome partner, and these are just great people, and I wish everyone the best.”
The daughter of former Alaska governor and former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Bristol Palin landed her own reality series, Life’s A Tripp, on Lifetime in 2012. The 14-episode first (and only) season premiered on June 19, 2012, and featured the 22-year-old’s adjustment to living back in Alaska after living in California temporarily. The series was called “dull” and “depressing,” and Palin was considered too “normal.”
“The challenge is that she’s just not that interesting,” San Francisco Chroinicle TV critic David Wiegand. “She’s not especially glamorous, and, at the other end of the spectrum, is no Alaskan Snooki either.”
