LeAnn Rimes Says Writing ‘Spitfire’ Was ‘Therapeutic’

LeAnn Rimes said writing her new album was very “therapeutic.”

The country music star was apparently working through her emotions when she began penning songs for her new album Spitfire. The collection of tunes was exclusively released through Amazon on Tuesday (June 4).

Since Rimes has been plagued by rumors and reports involving her husband Eddie Cibrian, she had plenty of material to draw from for her latest musical endeavor. She recently sat down with Country Weekly to discuss some of the finer details of her new songs.

“It was very therapeutic, but it was also very hard to bring up a lot of these things and face them because I think a lot of these emotions rose up in me as I started to write about them,” LeAnn Rimes explained to the magazine.

She added, “All of the sudden I had a lot of epiphanies on this album. I think I’ll make music from that place from here on out. I don’t think I can go backwards.”

Spitfire also contains a song entitled “What Have I Done” that serves as an apology of sorts to her ex-husband Dean Sheremet. She also touches on her affair with now-husband Eddie Cibrian with a tune called “Borrowed.”

LeAnn Rimes’ ex-husband also addressed one of the new songs on Twitter. After the singer tweeted about the upcoming released of Spitfire, Sheremet decided to weigh in on the matter.

“I co-wrote ‘God Takes Care of Your Kind,'” he wrote in response. The tune in question contains the lyrics, “You won’t even be a thought in my mind cause God takes care of your kind.”

Cibrian’s ex-wife Brandi Glanville doesn’t seem to think too highly of Rimes’ new album. She also took a moment to express her feelings on the matter prior to the release of Spitfire.

“If LeAnn wants her career back, she needs better lyrics. These are the worst songs I’ve ever heard. No one wants to listen to this!” Glanville opined.

Although Brandi isn’t a huge fan of her work, Rimes doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. She told Billboard there is still more work to be done.

“I have plenty of songs left to write. I have tons of ideas… musically that I want to do. So as soon as I find the right partner, the right place to go, I have plenty of ideas,” she explained.
