Hugh Jackman Isn’t Compelled To Do ‘Wolverine’ Sequel

Were you looking forward to seeing Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine in another stand alone film? You may not want to hold your breath on it. His first stand alone film on Wolverine, was seen as a pretty bad disaster in the X-Men franchise. Besides the film being leaked to thousands without the final editing touches, the film suffered low box office and wasn’t impressing any critics with its light story.

Someone else who wasn’t impressed by The Wolverine is Wolverine himself. Hugh Jackson, who has jumped into the role of Wolverine numerous times for the X-Men series explained that he isn’t keen on jumping into a sequel for what was supposed to be a promising spin-off franchise. Of possibly returning as Wolverine for a sequel, Jackman said:

“I wasn’t even sure after the first [stand-alone] film if I would do. I won’t say never, because I’m still loving it. But there would have to be a pretty compelling reason.”

Jackman isn’t the only one with this opinion, as producer Hutch Parker also agreed with the Wolverine star, who added that the idea for a sequel: “feels somewhat blasphemous.”

This isn’t the first time Jackman has spoken out against the Wolverine film. Then again, he certainly has the right to. He currently holds the record for appearing as the same character in a live-action superhero film. When asked what went wrong with Wolverine, Jackman said:

“I’ve always found it fascinating and slightly, I’ll admit, frustrating that I feel we’ve never really delivered what I would say is the core of the character. I think in this story, you get to see the ultimate Wolverine. You get to see who he really is. You definitely see him at his most vulnerable, both physically and emotionally.”

With that said, even if Hugh Jackman doesn’t do another Wolverine film, you will still be able to get your Wolverine fix. The actor is current making his seventh outing as the character in the next X-Men film titled X-Men: Days of Future Past.
