Chicago Man Kills Pit Bull For Tearing Up His $4 Shirt
A Chicago man allegedly killed a pit bull for tearing up his shirt Saturday. The shirt didn’t even cost $4, but Damien Wilkerson apparently thought he was justifiable in killing the dog.
The police officers who came to the 34-year-old’s home found the pit bull stuffed in an alley trash can. According to prosecutors, Wilkerson beat the dog with sticks and rocks before stabbing it. When the officers approached Wilkerson, they said they heard him admit to killing the dog. “The dog tore my shirt,” Wilkerson allegedly said. “This s – – – was $3.78.”
Police said the Chicago man was standing over his fence when the dog (not pictured) in the other yard jumped up and tore at his shirt. He became so enraged that he hopped over the fence and started to beat the dog. Wilkerson later admitted to the police that there were actually two dogs. “One was a puppy who ran away, and the other dog, yeah, I killed him,” he said. He beat both of the dogs before he fatally stabbed the older one.
The police arrested Wilkerson and charged him with aggravated cruelty to animals. He is currently being held at the Cook County Jail in lieu of $80,000 bail.
Wilkerson isn’t the only person to get charged with animal cruelty for beating a dog to death this past year. In April, a Sarasota man was charged with beating a former employer’s dog to death. Kevin Joseph Koscielniak allegedly broke into his employer’s business and beat the dog with a tire iron before burying it in a shallow grave on the west side of the lot. Koscielniak was asked to leave the business earlier that day for causing a disturbance.
Last month, a New York man was arrested for allegedly beating his dog with a shovel. A neighbor video recorded the beating and told the police. DC Dunkel denies the charges and said he was only disciplining his dog.
