Jose Mourinho Confirms Return To Chelsea

Jose Mourinho confirmed his return to Chelsea FC as manager after finishing his three-year reign with Real Madrid on Saturday night. The Meringues beat Osasuna 4-2 in their Primera Division finale and now Mourinho is set for a return to the Premier League after leaving during the 2007-08 season.

The Portuguese manager led Chelsea over a three-year span that began in 2004 and he will now call Stamford Bridge his home once again. Before leaving Spain for good, Mourinho spoke with Punto Pelota, a Spanish TV station, to discuss his next “gig” which he is very familiar with.

“I’m going to London on Monday and at the end of the week I will be the manager of Chelsea,” he told the TV station. “I feel the people there love me and in life you have to look for that.”

Jose Mourinho unexpectedly left Chelsea after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Rosenborg in the Champions League in 2007 which was considered a “mutual decision” after news broke that the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, didn’t see eye-to-eye with Mourinho about the Blues future plans.

The two are obviously back on the same page as the 50-year-old will now return to the club next season in hopes of leading them back to the top of the Premier League table. In his three previous seasons with Chelsea, Mourinho won two Premier League titles, two League Cups, an F.A. Cup, and the Community Shield.

Since leaving Chelsea, Mourinho spent two seasons at the helm of Internazionale in Serie A, Italy’s top league, before moving over to the Spanish powerhouse in Real Madrid. The popular manager was very successful at Inter Milan before moving to the Meringues, where he won La Liga in 2011-12 before falling to rival FC Barcelona this season.

Shortly after being dismantled in the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund of Germany’s Bundesliga, Mourinho announced that he would not be returning to Real Madrid next year. It didn’t take long before rumors began surfacing about his return to Chelsea, and now it’s official after the club announced the move on Monday.
