Pia Zadora Arrested On Domestic Battery Charge
Pia Zadora has been arrested on suspicion of domestic battery after an incident at her Las Vegas home.
The 61-year-old singer/actress was booked Saturday into the Clark County Detention Center but was released after posting $4,000 bond.
Police were called to her home at close to 5 am on Saturday after a call of a disturbance. There were few other details about Pia Zadora’s arrest. Police did not release the name of the victim or other details about the incident but said they will release more information on Monday.
Born Pia Alfreda Schipani, she got an early start in show business, appearing as a Martian girl in the 1964 movie Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Pia got her breakthrough close to two decades later when she starred in the 1982 film Butterfly.
The role earned Pia Zadora the Golden Globe Award for Best New Star of the Year, but there were accusations that her husband bought off the award with a marketing campaign. Other critics panned the role, and Pia Zadora would also win Razzies for Worst New Star and Worst Actress for the same performance.
Pia Zadora found little more success in acting, appearing in a number of other movies but earning scorn from critics. She was able to carve out a semi-successful career in singing. however, scoring several hit singles throughout the world. In 1984 Pia earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for the song “Rock It Out.” She also scored a US Top 40 hit with a cover of the Shirley Ellis hit “The Clapping Song” in 1983.
Pia Zadora, who also faces a coercion charge, has been married to her third husband, Mike Jeffries, since 2005. Jeffries is a detective with the Las Vegas police department and met Zadora when she came in to report a stalker.
