Samuel L. Jackson Quitting Acting To Become A Vigilante [Video]
Is iconic actor Samuel L. Jackson quitting his profession for a life on the outskirts of the law?
Nah. But it made for a good joke.
Jackson sent the Internet a bit of a shock when he appeared in a YouTube video Friday, announcing his intent to quit acting in order to pursue a life of vigilantism.
It all started with a promise to Reddit users that he would read aloud a 300-word user-submitted monologue from a random redditor. In the video, Jackson seems to break his promise by announcing the following:
“Hi, I’m Samuel L. Jackson. I’m sorry to disappoint you, Reddit, but I’ve decided to break the rules of my own competition, and I will not be reading a user-submitted entry as my monologue. Instead, I’d like to speak to you all from my own heart, in my own words; honestly and openly. I’ve been waiting to reveal something for a long, long, time and… well, here it is: I am quitting acting and pursuing a life of vigilantism.”
But Jackson actually did make good on his word. The monologue above was submitted word-for-word by a Reddit user named adiddy, with Jackson playing along as promised.
With adiddy’s words, Jackson successfully trolled the Internet, even if it was only for a moment.
Awesome-er still, the trolling was all int he name of a good cause. The monologue contest was part of a campaign to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, hosted on the website Prizeo. Jackson admitted that the disease has affected his family, but did not go into further detail.
The campaign has thus far raised over $100,000.
Jackson’s epic troll stuck, too. Prizeo co-founder Leo Seigal said that many contest participants were unhappy with Jackson’s video because they think he actually broke the rules and decided to announce his retirement.
But the 64-year-old actor reportedly loved the experience, which comes as no surprise for us. He is a frequent prankster, recently notable for his attempt to goad an uncomfortable white interviewer into using the odious “n-word” during a press appearance for Django Unchained.
