Katie Couric recently opened up a bit more about her dating life (who can forget her awkward night with Larry King ?), revealing that her little black book contains several other pretty big names.
The veteran TV journalist told Howard Stern on his radio show Wednesday that she went on dates with both Full House star Bob Saget and Survivor host Jeff Probst , but says both men never called her again.
Couric called Saget “really fun,” but admitted that in the end, she didn’t think he was all that interested in her.
“I don’t think I did it for him,” she said, adding “that’s alright.”
Then, Couric went on to detail her evening with Probst. “I went out with Jeff Probst once too. I think he had puka shells on — that was kind of a weird thing,” she joked.
Stern said he was shocked that neither Saget nor Probst called on Couric for a second date, but she didn’t seem to lose any sleep over it.
“I can’t say that I was devastated that neither called me back,” she said. “I thought they were both nice guys… I don’t think there was real magic there with either [of them], but I enjoyed spending time with them.”
The 56-year-old eventually found love with Jay Monahan, having two children with him before his death in 1998. She has been in a relationship with New York City-based financier John Molner for nearly a year.
Interestingly, there is one suitor that Katie Couric wishes she hadn’t turned down: Pop superstar Michael Jackson.
Jackson had attempted to organize a date through his friend and spiritual adviser Rabbi Shmuley Boteach roughly 12 years ago. Couric turned Jackson down because she was seeing someone else at the time.
“I do regret not having dinner with him,” she said. “That would have been insane — breaking bread with Michael Jackson!”
Interestingly, Probst emailed Us Weekly the day after Couric gave her interview to somewhat refute her claim that he never called her back .
He said that he “would have definitely asked for a second date,” continuing:
“The only reason I didn’t call back was the date was set up through her assistant and I never got her number. It felt weird to call her assistant for a second date. So it never had a chance to be a romance. Who knows what might have been? But it’s a date I definitely remember! I mean, come on, it’s Katie Couric!”
