Justine Bateman, 47, Is A College Freshman At UCLA
Justine Bateman is probably best known for playing Mallory Keaton on the show Family Ties. But now she’s known for something else: Being a freshman at UCLA.
Bateman, 47, enrolled at UCLA back in March and is currently working toward a degree in Computer Science.
Bateman, the sister of actor Jason Bateman, told LA Currents: “I really, really love to work. I love tech, I was half in it. And when I did a search on Monster.com, no matter the keywords I put in, half the jobs were for computer programmers and developers and I thought, ‘F–k it, I’ll just go be a computer programmer.’ ”
Bateman still acts occasionally but she hasn’t had a major role in a long time. She’s done small roles on shows like Modern Family and Psych and is currently working on a short film called A Little Something On The Side. Bateman’s main focus at the moment, however, is becoming a computer programer.
Well, that and being a mother. Bateman has two kids, Duke, 10, and Olivia, 9 with husband Mark Fluent and admitted that it was hard balancing family life and school.
Bateman said: “I was thinking the other day, in what had to have been a PMS-influenced moment, ‘What am I doing? I could just pick the kids up from school every day and go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and get bath mats, etc for the house. What am I doing going to school and doing all this hard work and pursuing one of the most difficult degrees available?’Then I thought, ‘Pull yourself together. You’re not going to feel like this in about 48 hours. Your the one who would stick a fork in your eye if you weren’t working. Get your s–t together.’ ”
Despite school work, raising two kids, and picking up the occasional acting job, Justine still has time to blog about her life. If you want to know more about Justin and her life in college you should check out her “Get A College Life” website.
