Philip Seymour Hoffman Was In Detox For Narcotics Abuse
Philip Seymour Hoffman just left detox, and it has been discovered that the treatment program he was undergoing was directly related to narcotics.
TMZ has learned that Hoffman fell off the wagon one year ago, nearly 23 years after he kicked his drug problem.
According to the report, Philip Seymour Hoffman began taking prescription pills recently and that addiction escalated into snorting heroine.
Hoffman took heroine for about a week and then reached out for help, checking himself into an East Coast detox facility.
The 2006 Oscar winner for Capote must be feeling a lot better as he has already started working on a new movie.
Hoffman spent 10 days in detox before heading back to shoot his newest film in Europe.
According to USAToday, Hoffman has three children — Cooper, 10; Tallulah 6, and Willa, 4 — with costume designer Mimi O’Donnell. He will appear in next November’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Hoffman has discussed his drug abuse in the past. In a 2006 interview with CBS’ 60 Minutes, he explained his hard partying past:
“It was all that [drugs and alcohol], yeah, it was anything I could get my hands on… I liked it all. I went [to rehab], I got sober when I was 22 years old. You get panicked… and I got panicked for my life. It really was just that.”
Philip then added:
“I have so much empathy for these young actors that are 19 and all of a sudden they’re beautiful and famous and rich. I’m like, ‘Oh my God. I’d be dead.’ You know what I mean? I’d be 19, beautiful, famous and rich. That would be it. I think back at that time. I think if I had the money, that kind of money and stuff. So, yeah [I would have died].”
