Everyone Hates Dane Cook More After Boston Strong Jerkiness
Did you catch Dane Cook’s appearance last night at the fundraising Boston Strong concert for the victims of the Boston Marathon attacks?
No? Neither did mostly everyone, because as Dane Cook explains, he wanted to keep his new material under wraps — which kind of defeats the point of doing a benefit show. Except the publicity, natch.
Everyone is hating on Dane Cook this morning for his miserly attitude about the Boston Strong concert, and his disinterest in addressing the criticism of his actions has only fueled the Twitter debate.
After Cook tweeted about demanding removal from the livestream, he pompously posted:
“I came back to Boston for one reason. The people. I received (and met) many of the people injured tonight. You are the greatest people.”
Users mocked his use of the word “received,” and piled on after his original tweet, which read:
“Hey everyone sorry my set was not a part of the live stream or televised! I didn’t want any of the new material to hit the airwaves yet!”
One Twitter user retweeted with the hashtag #classless, and others said:
“It’s your acting career that you shouldn’t let hit the airwaves.”
“[It’s] called charity. A*****e!!!”
“You screwed Boston bombing victims and their families from your hometown. Big Mea Culpa. Next time stay home.”
Dane Cook hate is definitely not a new thing, and even several comics have gone on record saying that among comedians — generally a closely knit and supportive community — Cook is not well liked.
Cook’s high profile habit of theft of jokes (especially from respected comic Louis C.K.) has proliferated the anti-Dane sentiment, but it appears that the Boston Strong incident is creating a stronger backlash.
@danecook Didn’t want the general public to learn which of Louis CK’s jokes you stole this time?Way to make a charity event all about you.

#BostonStrong is important, but definitely not important enough to jeopardize a few extra $’s in @danecook pocket.#Turd #NeverWasFunny
