Major Nelson On Xbox One DRM: ‘We Are Listening’

Microsoft has been on the receiving end of a substantial amount of heat over its confusing DRM and used games policies. Although Microsoft isn’t yet willing to clarify its stance on DRM and the console’s ability to play used games, company spokesperson Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb assures gamers that Microsoft is listening.

Major Nelson said as much In response to a torrent of complaints from fans over a recent blog post, where Microsoft attempted – and failed – to pin part of the blame on press.

“We’re fully aware of what is going on. I am also working on a few things to address it. I can’t say much more right now. But we ARE listening,” Hryb said in response to one comment.

Hryb’s comment may be of some comfort, but it still doesn’t make anything clear, and Microsoft hasn’t said just yet when it intends to bring clarity to the situation. It could be at their E3 press conference, or it could come later.

If there’s one thing that’s certain in all of this confusion, it’s that Microsoft has a lot to prove as far as the Xbox One is concerned. Between the concerns over DRM and an overly strong focus on television during the Xbox One reveal, the company has a lot of pressure to perform at E3 this year.

Despite all of the controversy, UK retailers are saying that pre-order interest in the Xbox One appears to be strong.

“Despite negative comments about the pre-owned model that has not been officially announced, consumer response has been extremely positive in terms of pre orders,” ShopTo CEO Igor Cipolletta said in a statement to MCV .
