Nine Inch Nails Signs Deal With Columbia Records, Album Will Drop This Year

Nine Inch Nails is all set to release a new album with Columbia Records later this year.

It’s no secret that Trent Reznor has been putting the band together for an upcoming tour. However, the NIN frontman said that he hasn’t been entirely forthcoming with what he’s been planning behind-the-scenes.

“For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly f***ing great,” Reznor said in a recent statement.

He continued, “This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, How to Destroy Angels and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place.”

Alan Moulder previously mixed the Nine Inch Nails album The Downward Spiral back in the 90s. The producer would later serve as engineer on several albums for Reznor’s Nothing Records. He also helped out on the Smashing Pumpkins’ epic double-disc release Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

Atticus Ross, meanwhile, has helped Reznor score some award-winning films over the past few years. He also assisted the Nine Inch Nails singer with his side project How to Destroy Angels.

Columbia chairman Rob Stringer is understandably excited about releasing the next NIN album. Since the band still has a strong and very loyal following, chances are the collection of tunes could be a hit for the label. Unfortunately, a release date has not been set as of this writing.

“We are thrilled at Columbia to work with a true renaissance artist like Trent Reznor on the return of Nine Inch Nails and an exciting new chapter of innovative music from them,” Stringer explained.

Reznor announced back in February that NIN would be getting together for a handful of shows later this year. What began as a few one-off gigs quickly turned into something else altogether. It would seem that the band is poised for a huge return this year.

The frontman said in a statement:

“Nine Inch Nails are touring this year. I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked – which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.”
