‘Pacific Rim’ TV Spot Urges Us To ‘Finish This’ [Video]
The second TV spot for Pacific Rim urges us to “finish this.”
Pacific Rim may be one of those movies that makes the critics shut up as it wows us with spectacular effects that make Transformers look like it’s not trying hard enough. Michael Bay may have some competition here.
In the film, it’s been 15 years since the Kaiju started crawling out of the Pacific Ocean and terrorizing the human race with the threat of extinction. Of course we haven’t exactly been sitting down and taking it, as the human race has banded together to combat the aliens with giant mech suits straight out of Robotech. We’ve called them Jaegers, which sounds exactly like the beverage’s abbreviated name.
The first trailer for Pacific Rim was epic, to say the least. Even Ron Perlman’s mug wasn’t enough to distract us from how much potential this film has to blow us away.
The TV spot begins with the narrator saying, “Deep beneath the Pacific, something had discovered us. They counted on the humans to fail. They never considered we would rise to the challenge.”
During the narration we see the ocean floor splitting open with a volcanic glow and electrical effects, the foot of one of the Kaiju smashing a big rig under it, and the ensuing explosion which doesn’t seem to phase it. The monster roars into the sky.
Then we see one of our aircraft being obliterated in the sky as it runs into a Kaiju claw or something. Some people look on as one of the Jaeger machines rises into view. Then we see others getting “strapped in” to similar machines.
A regal military type says, “We’ve one last chance. One final assault, everything we’ve got.”
An officer in a suit yells, “Let’s finish this!” before we see a montage of the epic action.
The rest of the TV spot is above. Pacific Rim is directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Diego Klattenhoff, Burn Gorman and Robert Kazinsky. The film is slated to hit theaters July 12.
