Dan Harmon Returning To ‘Community,’ Rumors Say
Dan Harmon could be returning to Community for the show’s fifth season.
Rumors say that the show’s creator has been asked to return after being fired following the third season. Harmon left the show after last year, leaving it to executive producers David Guarascio and Moses Port.
Now it appears Dan Harmon could be coming back to Community. He made the announcement to fans during a taping of his podcast, Hollywookiee reported.
“Dan Harmon just told the audience of his podcast Harmontown that he has been asked to return to Community!
As soon as Dan said it, he asked that it be edited out of the podcast and it was just for us audience members(and I wasn’t going to say a word) but soon after that Dan said ‘Ahhh F**k it. I don’t care who knows!’ He jokingly said that he would only return if they brought Chevy Chase back too but even he couldn’t stop laughing at that idea.”
NBC announced earlier month that Community would return to the lineup for the 2013-14 television season. This show ended its fourth season on a high note, drawing 3.1 million viewers and a 1.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic for its finale.
Though Community returns, it will do so without Chevy Chase, who left the show in November after growing frustrations on set and some public spats with the show’s director. Chase was reportedly upset with the direction his character, Pierce Hawthorne, was being taken.
In October Chase had an outburst on set, using the N-word when questioning his character’s dialogue. Chase said he immediately apologized to the case.
Not all outlets appear convinced by the rumors. The A.V. Club cast doubt on talk of Dan Harmon’s return to Community.
“Could this happen? Sure,” wrote Todd VanDerWerff on May 11, before Harmo’s reported talk of the comeback. “There is almost certainly a universe where Dan Harmon is asked back to be showrunner of the fifth season of Community, despite that sort of situation — a showrunner being fired then asked back a season later — having basically never happened in the history of television. And we mean this in the sense that there is an extremely large but not infinite number of universes and, thus, there is an extremely large but not infinite possible number of universes where this event happens, simply because the laws of quantum physics demand that such a thing be.”
There is no confirmation from NBC or Dan Harmon if he will be returning to Community.
