Jay-Z At Center Of NFL Investigation

Jay-Z has been slowly working his way into the world of sports. His Roc Nation Sports agency has signed several big stars to their roster including the New York Jets Geno Smith. The NFL is currently investigating Jay-Z to see if he broke any league rules while recruiting the NFL rookie.

The investigation centers on Jay-Z’s involvement in the recruitment process. The NFL says that only NFLPA-certified agents may be involved in recruiting new clients. Jay-Z is not a certified agents and the NFL believes that the singer may have directly influenced Smith’s decision.

The main piece of evidence in the NFL’s investigation is a photo that was posted on Instagram of Jay-Z and Geno Smith. The photo was taken before any announcement was made about Geno Smith signing with Roc Nation.

Smith signed with Roc Nation Sports agent Kim Miale but the league is curious to find out if Jay-Z made contact with Smith before the signing. Smith’s adviser John Thorton said that he sat in on meetings between Smith, Jay-Z and Miale as they discussed the Jets QB’s future in the NFL.

Thorton said: “I was in those meetings and Jay-Z connected with [Smith] on many levels.”

Thorton would later say that he was misquoted.

NFL.com reports that the Player’s Association has sent an inquiry to Kim Miale and Roc Nation Sports to find out more about Jay-Z’s involvement.
