Jeff Hornacek In Talks To Accept Phoenix Suns Head Coach Position
The Phoenix Suns are reportedly in talks with Jeff Hornacek. The former Suns and Utah Jazz shooting guard would take over the team after the franchise suffered through the second-worst season in franchise history.
At this time, those talks are just part of the ever rotating rumor mill, but the move would make sense given Hornacek’s history with the ball club.
Jeff Hornacek spent 14 years in the NBA and joined the Utah coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2007.
Picking up Hornacek could be a big win for the Suns. The former NBA player has also interviewed with the Charlotte Bobcats.
During his career Hornacek spent his first six seasons with the Suns before he was traded in a blockbuster deal with the Philadelphia 76ers that sent Charles Barkley to Phoenix.
Hornacek performed his best during the 1991-1992 season when he averaged 20.1 points per game. 1992 was also the only year in which Hornacek made the NBA All-Star team.
One thing is certain, the Phoenix Suns can’t do much worse than last year. The Suns finished with a 25-57 record in the Western Conference last season, the fourth-worst record in the NBA.
The only time the Suns suffered through a worst season was 1968-1969. That year, the Suns finished with a losing record of 16-66.
The Phoenix Suns were led last year by interim coach Lindsey Hunter. Lindsey went 12-29 after taking over the team from fired head coach Alvin Gentry.
Also recently fired by the Suns was general manager Lance Blanks. He was let go in April 2013. Blanks had served as the GM of the Phoenix Suns since Agust-2010.
Do you think Jeff Hornacek has what it takes to bring the Phoenix Suns back into playoff contention?
