Stone Temple Pilots Sue Scott Weiland For Ruining Tour
Members of the legendary rock band Stone Temple Pilots have sued former frontman Scott Weiland for ruining their tour.
The relationship between the singer and his band mates has been on the downswing for quite some time. After getting fired from the group earlier this year, Weiland is now on the receiving end of a lawsuit which claims his behavior ultimately sabotaged their tour.
According to TMZ, the Stone Temple Pilots’ lawsuit against the singer claims he missed several promotional appearances and frequently showed up late for performances. To make matters worse, Weiland is accused of attempting to “hijack” the tour by stealing all of the glory for himself.
It’s currently unknown the amount of money the band is seeking in damages. However, the band claims that the singer’s behavior resulted in “much strife and lost significant opportunities.”
The Associated Press reports that Scott Weiland’s lawyer may have attempted to interfere with the band’s new single “Out of Time” getting airplay on radio stations across the country. The lawsuit also states the group owns the Stone Temple Pilots name as well as songs, copyrights, and trademarks. This means Weiland could be prevented from performing these tunes during his solo shows.
The singer decided to address the allegations through a recent statement on his website. According to Weiland, the band can’t do anything to him since he’s still technically a member.
“First of all they don’t have the legal right to call themselves STP because I’m still a member of the band. And more importantly, they don’t have the ethical right to call themselves Stone Temple Pilots because it’s misleading and dishonest to the millions of fans that have followed us for so many years,” the singer explained.
Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington fronted STP during KROQ Weenie Roast in Los Angeles last weekend. Immediately following the show, Bennington revealed that he was working on new material with the group.
“Every band has it’s own kind of vibe. Stone Temple Pilots has this sexier, more classic rock feel to it. Linkin Park is a very modern, very tech-heavy type of band. I grew up listening to these guys,” the singer said.
Representatives for the band have yet to publicly address the lawsuit as of this writing.
