Justin Bieber Tops Social Star Awards, Nominated In 2013 MuchMusic Video, Teen Choice And World Music Awards
Justin Bieber may regard award shows with a jaundiced eye after last Sunday, but the singer has just won his first clutch of Social Star awards and has at least three more awards events to get through — if he shows.
The 19-year-old has been nominated in three upcoming awards events, but it’s likely these will go considerably easier than his recent Billboard bruising.
First up, the 2013 MuchMusic Video Awards.
The Canadian event features 14 categories including both Canadian artist only and international entries. The full list of nominees can be seen here.
Homegrown talents Marianas Trench and Drake lead nominations with six and five respectively while Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen scored two nominations each.
Both Bieber and Jepsen are nominated in the Best International Video of the Year by a Canadian category and the Your Fave Artist/Group category which is voted for by fans.
Recent triple Juno Awards winner Jepsen’s “This Kiss” and Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me” singles will battle against Avril Lavigne’s “Here’s to ever Growing Up,” Tegan And Sara’s “Closer,” and “Red Hands,” by Walk Off The Earth.
Bieber faces off against Jepsen, dance titan deadmau5, and Drake and Marianas Trench in the Your Fave Artist/ Group category.
Among the other nominees, Brit-Irish boy band One Direction are nominated in the Your Fave International Artist or Group and the International Video Of The Year by a Group for “Kiss You.”
Other artists scoring nods include Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, and PSY.
The South Korean star PSY, will also perform at and host the 2013 MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto.
The June 16 event will air on Canada’s MuchMusic channel and Fuse in the US.
Next, the 2013 Teen Choice Awards. The first round of nominees have been announced and can be seen here.
In the lead with three nods is Taylor Swift, who is up for Choice Female Artist, Choice Female Country Artist and Choice Smile.
Bieber has two nods, Choice Male Artist and Choice Male Hottie award.
In the first, the “Take You” singer will contend once more with Bruno Mars, also Pitbull, Justin Timberlake and Phillip Phillips, while in the Hottie category he is up against The Hunger Games’ Liam Hemsworth, Taylor Lautner, Harry Styles and Channing Tatum.
Maroon 5, Big Time Rush, fun., One Direction and The Wanted are nominated in the Choice Music Group category.
Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Miguel and Trey Songz are nominated in the Choice R&B category.
Selena Gomez bagged a Choice Female Hottie, Choice Female Artist and Choice Smile nominations.
The 2013 Teen Choice Awards airs on Fox on Sunday, August 11.
Bieber has also been nominated in the recently reignited World Music Awards. The awards’ patron is Albert II, Prince of Monaco, and the event is always a high glitz affair.
It has attracted huge names in the past. Jon Bon Jovi, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Andreas Bocelli, Elton John, Beyonce, Diana Ross and Mariah Carey to name just a few. Returning after a three year gap, the first World Music Awards was in 1989 and the last was in 2010.
Awards are based on sales and all the voting is online. The extensive list of nominees can be seen here.
They include Beyonce, will.i.am, Usher, Shakira, David Guetta, Drake, Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris, Jennifer Lopez, Muse, Green Day, Frank Ocean, The Wanted, Miguel, Keith Urban, Michael Buble, Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and many more.
The nominees are listed alphabetically and display once a user clicks on one of the nine award categories. These include World’s Best Song, World’s Best Live Act, World’s Best Entertainer and so on.
Bieber is nominated for Best Male Artist, Best Live Act, Best Entertainer of The Year, Best Song, Best Video and Best Album.
The World Music Awards website is not displaying an event date as yet. But IQ will update you when it does.
