Kate Hudson Joining Zach Braff For ‘Wish I Was Here’


Kate Hudson is reportedly signing on for Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here.

Reports suggest that the Bride Wars star will take the female lead opposite Braff in the upcoming film. According to The Wrap, Braff became a fan of the actress after catching her in the Cameron Crowe flick Almost Famous. The two later became friends.

The former Scrubs star will portray Aidan Bloom in the Kickstarter-funded project. Bloom is a struggling actor with a wife and two kids who is still trying to figure out who he is. Kate Hudson will play his spouse in the film.

Wish I Was Here already has a number of notable actors counted among the cast. In addition to Braff and Hudson, the flick will feature Anna Kendrick, Donald Faison, and Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons.

The folks at Deadline are reporting that Mandy Patinkin and Josh Gad have also joined the cast. The project, which will be directed by Braff, is being produced by Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg over at Double Fine Films.

Wish I Was Here sparked quite a bit of controversy when Zach Braff revealed that he was funding the movie through Kickstarter. Since the actor is associated with a hit television series and a handful of feature films, many thought Braff shouldn’t ask his fans to drop money in his virtual bucket.

The complainers became so vocal that the Garden State star decided to publicly address the situation. During a conversation with the folks behind the documentary KickStarted, Braff revealed why he decided to use Kickstarter to get his movie off the ground.

“This isn’t a money-making endeavor. Making a tiny art film is not where people go to to make money. This is a passion project,” the filmmaker said in defense of project.
