A Lionel Messi biopic is set to be released by a Beverly Hills company in time for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Epic Pictures Group has recently bought the rights to Messi’s biography and plans on financing and producing the film with the hope of showing it in theaters ahead of the prestigious tournament.
Chief Executive Patrick Ewald revealed that the production company plans to make an inspirational sports movie.
“The goal is to make a powerful and positive film that will leave audiences feeling inspired to go after their dreams no matter how impossible they seem.”
The film will be based on Luca Caioli’s biography of the diminutive Argentine star called ‘Messi: The Inside Story of the Boy Who Became a Legend.’
Caioli gave his approval for the project and stated he was ready to assist the US company in any way possible.
“I am very excited to be working with Epic Pictures Group on this powerful story,” he said.
Messi was born into a working class family in Rosario, Argentina and was diagnosed with human growth deficiency when he was just 11 years old.
He then moved to Barcelona shortly after the prognosis as the club promised it would pay his medical bills. He flourished in Catalunya and recently became the first player ever to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or four years in a row
It’s a classic rags to riches story and Epic Pictures Group is eager to share his tremendous feats on the big screen.
“Ultimately this is a Rocky-style tale about a young boy from humble beginnings who overcomes his physical shortcomings to become one of the greatest players of all time.”
Messi has led Barcelona to five Liga titles and three Champions League crowns while breaking a plethora of Spanish and European records along the way.
