Chris Christie’s Lap Band Secret Revealed
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had lap band surgery secretly in an attempt to lose weight, reports on the portly politico indicate.
Christie himself admitted his lap band secret to the New York Post, if the Post is to be believed, saying that turning 50 and familial concerns about his weight prompted him to “desperately” seek lap band help for his dietary issues.
The Jersey GOP leader explained that family, not a 2016 run for the White House, inspired him to try a lap band:
“I’ve struggled with this issue for 20 years… For me, this is about turning 50 and looking at my children and wanting to be there for them… It’s so much more important than that.”
Finally, on February 16, Chris Christie’s secret lap band surgery went off without a hitch, and the Governor was in and out of a clinic the same day.
Since the procedure, Christie says, he has already dropped 40 pounds and expects to continue on the same path. After the surgery, he says eating is different, and he dished to the Post:
“A week or two ago, I went to a steakhouse and ordered a steak and ate about a third of it and I was full.”
Regardless of why Chris Christie says the lap band was his next step, political sources point to a 2016 run as the main motivator.
The donor, who declined to be named in the piece, cites a White House brass ring as Chris Christie’s lap band motivator, telling the paper:
“This means he’s running for president. He’s showing people he can get his weight in control. It was the one thing holding him back.”
Chris Christie’s weight problem has long been cited as an impediment for the popular but controversial Republican to transcend Jersey and enter politics on a national level.
