The Golden State Warriors were defeated in game one of the Western Conference series on Monday night after the San Antonio Spurs pulled off a 129-127 double-overtime win.
While the Warriors lost in game one, their ability to hold on for a 129-127 contest may give the young team the confidence they need to move forward against a veteran Spurs team.
After the game, head coach Mark Jackson proclaimed, “It was a great game for us, a hard-fought game. We’re a young basketball team that will be better at the end of the day. … I saw a lot of good things.”
The Warriors have not had the best luck against the Spurs, dropping their last 30 contests. The Warriors were ahead by 16 with 4:31 left in regulation when they blew the lead then played through two less than stellar overtime quarters.
The Spurs managed to pull off the win while NBA all-star Tim Duncan sat out the final 14-minutes as he battled stomach flu.
The San Antonio Spurs may just be heating up after sitting out for eight days as they awaited their next competitor.
There is still hope for the Golden State Warriors who out rebounded San Antonio by 10. Stephen Currey also put up an impressive performance with 44 points and 11 assists in 58 minutes. The Warriors also held San Antonio to 43.8 percent shooting.
The Golden State Warriors will need to maintain an even momentum in future games if they hope to overtake the Spurs. The Warriors were playing a good game until guard Klay Thompson fouled out at the 3:57 mark. Klay Thompson held Spurs guard Tony Parker at bay, and, after he exited, Parker took over the game, driving the Spurs towards overtime and ultimately a first game victory.
Do you think the Golden State Warriors can overcome uneven gameplay to claim a round two victory over the San Antonio Spurs?
