J.J. Abrams Ditches Star Trek Talk, Begins Chatting About ‘Starting Over’ With Star Wars
J.J. Abrams and Simon Pegg sat down to talk about their new movie Star Trek: Into Darkness but instead ended geeking out over the upcoming Disney helmed Star Wars franchise.
Speaking about J.J. Abrams taking over the Star Wars franchise, Pegg says:
“I feel like it’s in safe hands now … you get it. You get it like a Star Wars fan gets it.”
In other words, George Lucas didn’t get it because he was just the creator and not a “fan.” At least not in the sense that fans are fans. If that makes sense.
Abrams then notes that he is taking a different approach with Star Wars than he did with Star Trek. Abrams was never a fan of Star Trek when deciding to direct.
As a huge fan of the Star Wars movies, Abrams says of the fight ahead of him:
“Part of the challenge of anything you come to pre-loving is you have to force yourself to start over and not assume anyone’s going to care or be impressed.”
Further joking about the upcoming Star Wars movie, Pegg jokes that it will be titled The Further Adventures of Jar Jar Binks.
Abram’s smiled over Pegg’s suggested title for the movie, but, deep down, we know he’s likely freaking out as he prepared to take over the most storied sci-fi movie franchise of all time.
Here’s to hoping that along with reinventing Star Wars will not involve the famous lens flares Abrams has become known for.
