Katy Perry Known As ‘Devil Child’ To Her Devoutly Religious Father
Katy Perry is known as “devil child” to her devoutly religious father, who recently asked churchgoers in California to pray for his pop star daughter.
Perry came from a strict religious upbringing under parents Keith and Mary Hudson, both of whom are pastors. As a child, she attended Christian schools and camps and didn’t have exposure to pop music.
“Growing up I wasn’t really allowed to listen to a whole lot of what my mom would call, secular music,” Perry once noted.
In fact, Perry got her start by singing Gospel music and even put out a Christian album before shifting to pop music.
It was that career change that has her father calling Katy Perry a “devil child” in need of prayer. A video obtained by the UK tabloid publication The Sun showed Keith Hudson lamenting his daughter’s career choice before a congregation. He also referenced her breakout hit, I Kissed A Girl.
“They ask how can I preach if I produce a girl who sang about kissing another girl?” Hudson said.
Hudson added that “devil child” Katy Perry is also leading her fans astray as well.
“I was at a concert of Katy’s where there were 20,000. I’m watching this generation and they were going at it. It almost looked like church,” he said. “I stood there and wept and kept on weeping and weeping. They’re loving and worshiping the wrong thing.”
Perry might be set to open up even more about her upbringing. The singer is set to pen a tell-all autobiography that covers several aspects of her life. The book has the working title Part of Me, which is the same name as her 2012 concert film.
The book will reportedly delve into her rise to fame as well as her love life including an ill-fated marriage to comedian Russell Brand.
Katy Perry hasn’t responded to the “devil child” allegations.
