Atticus Lane-Dupre netted four goals against his favorite soccer club, the Portland Timbers, on Wednesday afternoon during a Make-A-Wish game that had over 3,000 fans in attendance. Atticus stole the show and for one day put his battle with cancer aside to inspire thousands, including Timbers’ players.

The 8-year-old was informed that he had cancer in the fall of 2011 and went on to miss his final match with his youth club, the Green Machine. Dreams do come true, as the Portland Timbers teamed up with the Make-A-Wish foundation in Oregon to give Atticus and his teammates a shot at the professional club.

Atticus took to the pitch while thousands of Timbers’ supporters gave him a standing ovation and cheered as he began to warm up. The youngster was a little shy at first but went on to wave to the crowd and produce one of the best smiles you will ever see.

The Green Machine faced a bevy of Timbers’ starters that included Jack Jewsbury, Will Johnson, and Mikael Silvestre. Atticus’ favorite player is captain Will Johnson and he was given a locker right next to his hero before the match.

Johnson went on to receive a red card against the Green Machine and Atticus took advantage with another goal. The Green Machine went on to beat the Timbers 10-9 and Atticus was named the man of the match.

As is tradition with the Timbers, Atticus was given a slice of the victory log for his performance in the match. The Green Machine gave the Timbers their first loss since March 9th, though it obviously won’t affect Portland’s place in the MLS standings.

Atticus’ family was also well received by the crowd and Timbers’ staff as they were given a special tour of the club’s facilities and will be special guests at their next match against the New England Revolution on Thursday.

The entire experience was touching and emotional for everyone in attendance who came to support Atticus as he continues his battle with cancer. Not only did Atticus lead the Green Machine to victory, but he shared the experience with his close friends and teammates.

Most kids want to go to Disney Land; Atticus just wanted to play the game he loves with his favorite team. Here’s video highlights of the memorable match:
