Apparently athletes have a thing for making a move on other athlete’s girlfriends, as C.J. Watson’s text messages prompted boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s assault on ex-girlfriend Josie Harris in 2010. The boxing star served two months of a three month sentence in jail after pleading guilty to a domestic violence charge and was released in August of 2012 .

C.J. Watson is a guard in the NBA and he was playing for the Chicago Bulls at the time of the dispute. Watson is a Las Vegas native and became a threat to Mayweather after the undefeated champion found text messages from the NBA player on Harris’ cell phone.

According to a Las Vegas police report obtained by Yahoo! , Harris and Mayweather had been fighting early into the morning on September 9, 2010 but went separate ways before Mayweather returned and assaulted his then girlfriend.

Up until this point it was unknown as to what caused the assault, but it has now been released that Mayweather returned to Harris’ home after the first dispute and found text messages from C.J. Watson on her phone. Harris was asleep on the couch at the time and woke up to Mayweather hovering over her, reportedly shouting “are you having sex with C.J.”

She informed Mayweather that she’d been seeing the NBA player and he immediately lost it. According to the police report, Mayweather responded by punching Harris in the back of the head several times before it was all over.

Harris also told police that her then boxing boyfriend went on to yell, “I’m going to kill you and the man you are messing around with. I’m going to have you both disappear.”

C.J. Watson is now a member of the Brooklyn Nets, and he failed to comment on the issue after practice on Wednesday. Watson left practice before speaking to the media and surely won’t address the dispute until after the playoffs, if ever.

Interestingly enough, Harris and Mayweather have rebuilt their friendship and Harris also stated that the two have had one intimate encounter since his release from jail.

Do you believe C.J. Watson’s text messages resulted in Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s attack on ex-girlfriend Josie Harris?
