Chris Hardwick Gets Late-Nite Comedy Central Gig
Professional nerd, Chris Hardwick is getting a new late night talk show on Comedy Central that will follow The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.
The new show will launch in the fall, but doesn’t yet have a name. It will be co-produced by Will Ferrell’s Funny Or Die.
According to Deadline, Hardwick’s late show will be a comedy panel show with a heavy focus on social media and pop culture.
“Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant will serve as executive producers/showrunners on the Chris Hardwick show, returning to Comedy Central, where they co-created and starred on the cult series Reno 911!”
Chris Hardwick got his start in show biz as a DJ for Los Angeles radio station KROQ. He moved to TV in 1998 as the star of the sitcom Guys Like Us.
In 2011 Hardwick partnered with GeekChic Daily to launch what he calls his nerd media empire, Nerdist Industries.
From Chris’ Nerdist Bio:
“In 2008, Chris founded Nerdist, a website and podcast devoted to all things nerd related. In 2011, Nerdist merged with GeekChicDaily to form Nerdist Industries with Hardwick serving as Founder & Chief Creative Officer and digital media entrepreneur Peter Levin serving as Chief Executive Officer. Their online presence includes a website at Nerdist.com, a premium YouTube channel (youtube.com/nerdist), the Nerdist News daily e-newsletters, 1.7 million Twitter fans and a podcast network including the flagship Nerdist Podcast which is also produced as a TV show on BBC America.”
In addition to hosting audio and video shows, Hardwick is a standup comedian. He headlined a standup special on Comedy Central just last year.
