‘Friends’ Drank Enough Coffee At Central Perk To Kill 1900 People

The characters of Friends apparently drank so much coffee during their time in Central Perk that it would have killed 1900 people, according to journalists as Scientific American.

The magazine has calculated that at the rate they were consuming the liquid in the coffee shop’s 20 oz. mugs, they ingested enough caffeine to risk the health of hundreds of people.

It was calculated that Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey each drank two of these enormous drinks per episode, and considering that the series ran for 236 instalment that means they took in a lot of caffeine.

This means that the gang drank 445 gallons of coffee, and they also consumed three whole pounds of caffeine over the show’s 10 seasons.

Reports suggest that anywhere between 5 and 10 grams of caffeine is enough to be deadly, however this of course depends on the individual’s body weight and any heart defects that they possess.

Other variables include the questions; how often were we catching up with this group of Friends? As the show was only broadcast once a week it’s conceivable to imagine that we were only seeing their activities over a 24 hour period. Maybe they were drinking like this seven times a week.

The Scientific American states, “So what if we are only joining the gang once a week? If each episode represented a week of time, on average, then these java junkies downed nearly 3,100 gallons of coffee—enough to fill over half a freight container. This amount of joe could send over 1,900 people to the hospital.”

Other recent Friends equations have calculated that the entire group slept with 138 people in total. This saw Chandler sleep with 10.5 people, Ross, 14, Monica, 14.5, Rachel, 15.5, Phoebe, 32.5, and Joey, 51.5 individuals. It also worked out that every member of the cast had a dry spell in Season 6.
