Kate Hudson got a big surprise on the night before her 34th birthday — a star-studded party in her honor.
The birthday party was planned by her rock star fiance, Matthew Bellamy, who got her family and friends together at a friend’s house in New York’s West Village for the shindig. They caught the actress completely unaware, a source said.
“Kate was totally surprised,” the source told Us Weekly . “The party started outside, but it was freezing so people moved inside and danced.”
Hudson originally said she was looking for something small and low-key to celebrate turning 34.
“I just want to hang with my family,” the actress told a reporter earlier in the month.
Those attending Kate Hudson’s surprise party included Cameron Diaz, Judd Apatow, and Leslie Mann. Though she was caught unprepared, the actress had a great time, sources said. Kate danced and talked to all the guests while decked out in a tight metallic dress.
Earlier this month Kate Hudson announced another surprise — a pregnancy with Bellamy after only a few moths of dating.
“It was all very old-fashioned and proper and we went on lovely dates, but two months later I was pregnant,” Hudson told US Weekly .
Hudson has another son, 9-year-old Ryder, from her previous marriage with Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson. Though she is still taking roles like her recent turn in The Reluctant Fundamentalist , sources said Kate has been focusing more on just being a mom.
This includes going to her own mom for advice. Hudson recently said she turns to famous mom Goldie Hawn for advice on anything from dieting to dating to how to make decisions in Hollywood.
After Kate Hudson had a surprise party, she spent her actual birthday watching her fiance’s band Muse perform at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
