Best Man Fatally Stabs Bride: Motive May Be About Money, Not Love

Jonathan Broyhill was arrested this week for allegedly stabbing Jamie Hahn to death at her home in North Carolina. Broyhill served as the best man at Hahn’s wedding in 2009, and many people speculated that the former best man fatally stabbed the bride due to some torrid love triangle.

But that may not be the case.

Police have not publicly determined the motive behind Broyhill’s alleged fatal attack, but police did say that they do not believe that the stabbing was “domestic related.” In other words, police do not think that the murder was related to a secret love affair.

So what caused the former best man to snap and fatally stab his best friend’s bride?

WRAL reports that the motive may have had something to do with money.

Jamie Hahn was a well known political fundraiser in North Carolina. Her firm, Sky Blue Strategies, raised money for North Carolina non-profits as well as political campaigns. Broyhill was in charge of keeping the books for the firm.

Sky Blue helped raise money for the North Carolina Democratic Party, the Coalition to Protect All NC Families, and Equality North Carolina as well as politicians like Bob Etheridge and former Rep. Brad Miller.

Miller told ABC that he recently received a letter from the Federal Elections Commission about five donors who did not receive a refund for their 2010 campaign contributions. Miller said that Broyhill would have received that letter but that Broyhill never said anything about it.

Miller said: “The FEC did send a letter that I just found out about today and the letter was to John Wallace, the campaign treasurer, and he just found out about it today he told me … It doesn’t appear that there was an immediate argument or confrontation but this may have been in the background … It certainly may be that Jon was aware that he was about to be caught.”

Police do not know if money caused the best man to fatally stabbed his best friend’s bride. All they’ve said so far was that the murder was not “domestic related.”
