The rent is still too damn high.
Jimmy McMillan, who famously ran for governor in 2010 because “the rent is too damn high,” has announced his candidacy for New York City mayor in a catchy rap video. In the televised debates three years ago, his signature catchphrase and forceful if not eccentric presentation made headlines.
McMillan, a Vietnam veteran, has made a bid for public office at least six times as both a Democrat and a Republican, and now he is running as the standard bearer of (no surprise) “The Rent is Too Damn High” political party.
Along with (so far) nine generally boring announced candidates, McMillan wants to succeed incumbent Michael Bloomberg . In the 2010 gubernatorial campaign, he made his opposition to high rent and property taxes for homeowners abundantly clear in a populist message. He believes that lowering rent and cutting taxes will ease financial stress and help eradicate hunger and poverty, as well as raise tax revenue.
As you’ll see from the video embedded below, McMillan, 66, still has a lot of impressive martial arts moves . In the rap video, McMillan reminds potential NYC voters that…
“I’m Jimmy McMillan, 2013, I’m running for mayor, come and run with me… because the rent is too damn high…
“It’s been two long years since I’ve been on the scene. Now I’m back in the game, looking mean and lean. The race may be different, but the message is the same: RITDH is gonna change the game… my mustache and haircut is too damn fly…
“I’m on a mission again to give the people my word, the rent around here is too damn absurd, the rent and the deficit is too damn high. Poverty and unemployment both up in the sky. Wages and education is too damn low. Economic recovery is too damn slow. This time we’ll change the game; if you’re running with me, then you know my name…”
If Anthony Weiner can run for mayor, why not Jimmy McMillan? Do you think McMillan will liven things up especially if he gets into any of the debates?
