A Baltimore City Detention inmate is accused of impregnating four guards while incarcerated. Tavon White is reportedly head of a prison gang called the Black Guerilla Family. The charges are part of a federal investigation involving 13 female corrections officers and seven inmates.
A federal grand jury has indicted 25 individuals suspected of involvement with the Black Guerilla Gang . The charges include drug possession, conspiracy to distribute drugs, money laundering, and facilitating operations of the Black Guerilla Gang inside several Maryland correctional facilities.
As reported by FBI.gov , the 13 female guards have been identified as either members or supporters of the prison gang. Four of those guards were reportedly impregnated by the leader of the gang, Tavon White.
As stated by U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein, “Correctional officers were in bed with BGF inmates, in violation of the first principle of prison management.” The Black Guerilla Gang exerted control over the guards, continuing their operation inside prison walls as far back as 2009.
The guards are accused of assisting in money laundering, obstruction of justice, bribery, assault, robbery, witness retaliation, and drug trafficking.
Contraband, including drugs and cell phones, was delivered directly to the prisoners by corrections officers.
Speaking of his controlling presence in the jail, inmate Tavon White discusses how things worked:
“This is my jail. You understand that? I’m dead serious… I make every final call in this jail… and nothing go past me, everything come to me… Any of my brothers that deal with anybody, it’s gonna come to me. You see what I am saying… Anything that get done must go through me. ”
According to FBI officials, White used sex to gain control of female guards. He has been accused of impregnating four guards, Jennifer Owens, Katera Stevenson, Chania Brooks, and Tiffany Linder. Owens and Stevenson each had White’s name tattooed on their body.
The indictment was the result of an two year investigation into corruption allegations in Maryland correctional facilities. The Maryland Prison Task Force, in cooperation with numerous local, state, and federal agencies, eventually determined that the operation involved 13 guards, 7 inmates, and 5 outside suppliers.
A raid on February 14 led to the seizure of vital evidence used to secure the indictment. Each defendant faces a sentence of up to 20 years if convicted. Officials are also seeking the seizure of $500,000 cash and several luxury cars, thought to be proceeds from the unlawful operation.
The FBI press release specifically states that Tavon White is accused of impregnating four guards, each at least once, since 2009.
