Shakira’s baby weight has proven “stressful” and “a challenge” to shift, the star has revealed in a new interview.
Singer Shakira , who is also a mentor on NBC’s The Voice , told People :
“[Losing baby weight] is the only thing that’s been a little stressful. I knew I had to come back [to the US] to do The Voice two months after I had delivered a baby. I didn’t have my four months of maternity like every woman on earth has. I’m not trying to complain, but it’s been a process full of challenges.”
The 36-year-old star, who gave birth to son Milan in Spain with 26-year-old soccer star boyfriend Gerard Pique, also commented on the unique pressures faced by modern women:
“I think that our mothers and grandmothers weren’t under the pressure women of today are after delivering a baby. My dad says there’s nothing better than meat over the bones. So he likes my mom a little chubby. She was never under the pressure to have to get to her old weight – and she never did.”
She concluded: “I’m still a few pounds over.”
Shakira also revealed her secret to shedding baby weight was Zumba. The singer said:
“I do Zumba. Zumba has been actually really great for me. Even during pregnancy, I kept doing it until almost the end. Now, with The Voice , I don’t have time to exercise. And when I have a day off, I just want to be with Milan.”
Shakira has previously admitted to finding parenthood “hard” and admits her experiences haven’t been “idyllic” with Milan, who she describes as a “great baby.”
What do you make of Shakira’s baby weight comments? Do you agree women now face greater pressure to shed post-pregnancy weight than their mothers and grandmothers did?
