‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Adds Lee Pace As The Villain

Guardians of the Galaxy has added Pushing Daisies actor Lee Pace as the flick’s villain.

Although Pace recently landed the role, it wasn’t the one he originally auditioned to get. Director James Gunn had originally considered him for hero Peter Quill. However, that part would ultimately land in the hands of Chris Pratt.

When the time came to cast the Guardians of the Galaxy villain, Gunn and company decided to revisit Lee Pace. While it’s being reported that the actor is currently hammering out a deal for the chief villain, it’s unknown which character he will portray.

According to The Wrap, Lee Pace is in “final negotiations” for the role in James Gunn’s upcoming sci-fi adventure flick. The identity of his character is currently a closely-guarded secret.

Pace has recently worked with a number of top directors. In addition to appearing in Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed historical drama Lincoln, the actor tackled the role of Thranduil in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Many fans know Pace from his turn in the beloved television series Pushing Daisies. Much to the dismay of the show’s followers, it was canceled after only two seasons.

Lee Pace and Chris Pratt aren’t the only ones who have signed on to star in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Star Trek Into Darkness co-star Zoe Saldana will play Gamora, while Dave Bautista will play the part of Drax the Destroyer.

The Walking Dead alum Michael Rooker has been cast in the role of Yondu. Rooker and Gunn previously worked together on the director’s gory 2006 horror movie Slither.

Gunn’s adaptation of the comic book series is part of Marvel’s “Phase Two.” The film is expected to arrive in theaters on August 1, 2014.
