To make matters worse, she played the “don’t you know who I am?” card, which is usually leads to being placed in the back of a police cruiser and a quick trip to jail.
After she was released from police custody, the actress admitted in a statement that she had consumed a few extra adult beverages prior to being stopped by the police:
“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said.
“It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”
Reese Witherspoon is due back in court on May 22; her husband has a court appearance the following day.
