Reese Witherspoon Cancels Talk Show Appearances After Mortifying Arrest [Video]
Following her Friday arrest, Reese Witherspoon has reportedly canceled her upcoming television appearances and some press.
The actress had been booked for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America this week.
However, according to The Washington Post, the 37-year-old has canceled both events.
Witherspoon’s Monday taping on GMA would have aired Wednesday while her date with Fallon was scheduled for tomorrow.
The Oscar-winner was also a no-show at a Mud press junket on Monday.
However, she did attend the New York premiere of the film on Sunday.
The mother-of-three has since released a statement that reads:
“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said.”
“It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”
Witherspoon was arrested on Friday along with husband and CAA agent, Jim Toth, in Atlanta, for driving under the influence and disorderly conduct. Toth was reportedly swerving over the double yellow line before police pulled him over.
In addition to their arrests, it’s probably fair to say that what Witherspoon is most embarrassed about is her behavior toward police officers at the scene.
“Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer … I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet.”
The actress reportedly then used the classic ‘Do you know who I am’ line and asked the officers: “Do you know my name?” followed by “you’re about to find out who I am,” then “you are going to be on [the] national news.”
Both Toth and Witherspoon were released on bond on Friday at about 3:30 am.
They were scheduled to appear at the Atlanta Municipal Court on Monday, but a lawyer for the couple has arranged for new court dates of May 23 for Toth and May 22 for Witherspoon.
