The Evil Within was officially unveiled on Friday but other than a live-action video that hinted what the game would be about there weren’t a whole lot of details made known.
This morning, Bethesda has released some more information about the game, including who you will play as and what your role will be inside the game.
The game’s creator, Shinji Mikami has made it clear that he wants this to be the “perfect balance ” between horror and action. Mikami seems to understand that the actual story might seem a little cliche, but he doesn’t believe the game itself is cliche at all.
The Evil Within centers around the main character, who is named Sebastian . Sebastian is a police detective called to check out a disturbance at the local insane asylum.
Eventually the main character is joined by his partner, Joseph and a female police officer who is only referred to as “kid.”
One of the first things you will note when you arrive at the asylum is that the parking lot is littered with empty police cars. There isn’t an overt sign of violence but there is also nobody outside the asylum.
Once you work your way into the building you will find dozens of patients, doctors and police officers in various poses of death. The trio finds a monitor that is focused on a room where a hooded figure is busily murdering more police officers.
Suddenly the same figure pops up behind Sebastian and knocks him unconscious. This is where the game truly takes off.
After you wake up you must make your way through the asylum, attempting to solve the mystery of who the killer is while also attempting to escape.
The game evolves as your character moves through the landscape and “The Butcher” as he is referred to by Mikami isn’t the only enemy you will face.
There are also some more standard zombie like villains that basically serve as road blocks and target practice as your character continues his adventure.
The game has worked in some mechanics so that you need to sneak around in order to have the greatest success. This also means that the characters in the game will interact differently depending on whether or not you actually can sneak.
The Evil Within will be sneaking onto the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and next generation consoles in 2014.
