Reese Witherspoon Arrested: Actress ‘Embarrassed’ By Her Behavior

Reese Witherspoon said in a statement that she is “deeply embarrassed” by the behavior that caused her to be arrested on Friday morning.

The acclaimed actress was charged with disorderly conduct after she got into a heated exchange with a police officer in Atlanta. Witherspoon explained that she was “frightened” during the ordeal, though this didn’t excuse the way she behaved.

Reese Witherspoon issued the following statement days after she was arrested:

“I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

The actress added that she couldn’t comment further on the situation since the case was pending. Publicist Meredith O’Sullivan Wasson also refrained from adding anything else on the subject.

Reese Witherspoon was taken into custody after her husband Jim Toth was arrested for DUI. The actress reportedly refused to stay in the vehicle while Toth was given a field sobriety test. This ultimately led to her arrest.

“Do you know my name? You’re about to find out who I am. You’re about to be on national news,” Witherspoon said during the incident. The officer explained that she hung out of the window while stating that she didn’t believe he was a real cop.

Although the actress was charged with disorderly conduct charges on Friday morning, she was able to attend the premiere of Mud in New York City on Sunday. Witherspoon didn’t speak to any reporters when she appeared on the red carpet for the film’s debut.

The actress was in Atlanta filming the movie The Good Lie. Production on the flick continued on Saturday despite her legal troubles.
