Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Arrest Photo Circulates Shortly After Suspect Apprehended
A Dzhokhar Tsarnaev arrest photo has been circulating on the internet just hours after Boston police apprehended the remaining bombing suspect.
The hunt for Dzhokhar grew dramatic just hours after the FBI released a picture of the suspect on Thursday. By later that evening, the two suspects — 19-year-old Dzhokhar and his 26-year-old brother Tamerlan — had reportedly hijacked a car and went on a rolling shootout with police.
By the night’s end, two police officers were shot, one fatally, Tamerlan was killed, and Dzhokhar was still on the loose.
The hunt for Dzhokar expanded citywide as nearly all of Boston shut down on Friday.
At 7 pm there were reports of gunfire in Watertown, Massachusetts, the setting of the original shootout early Friday morning. There police found Dzhokhar Tamerlan hiding in a boat in a residential backyard, taking him into custody close to 9 pm.
Word spread quickly, with Boston Police Department and Mayor Tom Mennino tweeting about the arrest.
After long efforts to ensure the suspect was brought in alive, the Watertown neighborhood broke into applause when police announced that he was in custody.
“I’m happy they caught him. Im happy he’s alive. I want to know why,” said Jeannette Harvey, a Watertown resident who works at Massachusetts General Hospital in the trauma ward.
In short time, several outlets were sharing a Dzhokhar Tsarnaev arrest photo. In the picture, a scrawny and bloodied young man is held to the ground while an officer from the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives appears to administer oxygen.

The Dzhokhar Tsarnaev arrest photo was soon shared on Reddit as well and circulated among online news publications. While there was no immediate verification that the photo was indeed the Boston Marathon bombing suspect, it did fit the description and matched photos of the 19-year-old Russian-born man.
