Among the multitudes of pointless Facebook “action” groups, one has been particularly pervasive since Betty White’s popular spot during the Superbowl last month.
The group, titled “Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!” boasts nearly half a million members, and it looks like they may get their wish. A statement on the group’s info page implores:
This is a page to encourage both Betty White AND Saturday Night Live that Betty would be a FANTASTIC choice to host SNL.
Betty White will turn 88 years old on January 17, 2010. She is universally known and admired.
in 2010, Betty will be entering her EIGHTH DECADE in show-business. What a way to honor her, as well as entertain countless millions of people the world over who adore her as an actress, as a tireless animal rights advocate, and as a fanastic comedian!
PLEASE BECOME A FAN!!!
According to CNN, the group’s pleas have not fallen on deaf ears. “Sources” say that White is “thisclose” to landing her first SNL gig with one caveat. Reports indicate the SNL team is trying to cobble together a “Women of Comedy” episode- alumni faves Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are being pursued, and Molly Shannon is said to have already agreed. (Given her age, the grueling pace of hosting an entire episode herself might be too much for White.)
Now, on to more pressing matters. Can this (rhyming object) get more fans than (overrated celebrity)?
