‘Castle Of Illusion’ Getting Reimagining, Summer Release
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is getting a reboot and a reimagining as well as a release date for this summer.
This is actually the second Disney video game that is being brought into the 21st century. Ducktales was the first game to get this treatment and there has been nothing but a ton of excitement surrounding that title.
The original version of this particular game was first released way back when the Sega Genesis was one of the hot consoles of the day.
This updated, HD 2D/3D version of that beloved game will be released through the Playstation Network and XBLA on the consoles. It will also be released on the PC through Steam.
Castle of Illusion is basically the second big name game that is starring Mickey Mouse. Epic Mickey was the first foray onto the current generation consoles and was considered a fairly large success.
Sega Australia is rumored to be the studio which will be working on this title. That is a bit ironic since its entirely possible that this might basically be the last game the studio works on.
Sega Australia is expected to be shuttered by the end of the year. Sega senior digital brand manager Mai Kawaguchi recently put a post on the company’s blog that talked about making the game.
Kawaguchi said that the team has had a blast fully reimagining and remastering the game. The title is supposed to be similar enough to the old version that it still contains all the old “magic” that the 1990 version of the game held.
There isn’t an official release date just yet, but June looks like it will be the release month so you’re just going to keep an out out once we hit that part of the calendar.
