The upcoming remake of the Burt Reynolds flick Heat has added three new cast members.
Stanley Tucci, Anne Heche, and Cedric the Entertainer have reportedly signed on to co-star in Simon West’s retelling of William Goldman’s novel. The production will star Jason Statham in the role previously embodied by Reynolds. Sofia Vergara is also slated to star.
The Transporter star will tackle the role of Nick, a gambler who takes on the mob after a gangster attacks his friend. Since Statham’s character is an ex-mercenary type with all sorts of nifty skills, chances are he won’t have too much trouble getting revenge.
Stanley, Anne, and Cedric aren’t the only recent additions to the cast of Heat . Heroes alum Milo Ventimiglia previously signed on as a minor character in the upcoming remake.
Filming is currently underway in New Orleans. Since the movie is set in Las Vegas, the production is expected to move to Sin City in the near future.
Although West’s involvement pretty much ensures that Heat will be nothing but wall-to-wall action, it’s Cory Yuen’s participation in the flick that’s cause for excitement. The veteran Hong Kong filmmaker will serve as fight choreographer and action director on the flick.
Yuen and Statham worked together on the first Transporter movie.
The Heat remake served as a reunion for star Jason Statham and director Simon West. The two previously worked together on The Expendables 2 . Before they teamed up for the sequel to Stallone’s box office hit, the pair joined forces on the Mechanic remake in 2011.
Although filming has begun on the flick, Heat isn’t expected to arrive in theaters until next year. However, Statham fans will be able to keep themselves busy with the upcoming action-thriller Hummingbird .
