‘Think Like A Man’ Sequel Confirmed For Summer 2014

A sequel to the 2012 film Think Like A Man has been confirmed for next summer.

Titled Think Like A Man Too,the sequel is slated to hit theaters in May 2014. The cast hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it is expected that the original actors — which include Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Meagan Good, Michael Ealy, and others — will return for the ensemble comedy.

Steve Harvey, who wrote the book on which the film is based, will be returning as executive producer, along with Will Packer and screenwriters David A. Newman and Keith Merryman.

Think Like A Man was released on April 20, 2012 and, while it was met with generally mixed reviews, it managed to gross over $91 million in the US and Canada on a “shoestring” $12.5 million budget. The film grossed over $33.7 million its opening weekend, ending The Hunger Games’ four-week run at the top of the US box office.

The late Roger Ebert gave the film two stars, calling it “one of the greatest examples of product placement in history.” While he thought the cast was “superb,” he found it “depressing to find them locked inside this formula,” saying the film would have worked as “a screwball comedy or satire,” but instead it took the book too seriously. He also points out the Harvey’s qualifications as a relationship expert is the fact that he has been married three times and “possibly gained some insights from his two ex-wives about how they failed to keep him.”

Shortly after Think Like A Man was released, Harvey discussed the possibility of a sequel and said he vetoed two possible scripts because they contained “buffonery.”

“They pitched a couple of storylines to me. I’m not sold on any one of them yet,” Harvey said. “I’d love to duplicate the success of the first one. That’s going to be hard but we’re going to get there.”

The 56-year-old actor and radio host added, “You can’t take my book and turn it into anything close to buffoonery. I’m not ever going to allow that. The book wasn’t about buffoonery. The first movie wasn’t—and it really struck a nerve with men and women—and so the second movie has to be in that same vein.”
