Reality TV star and interior design wizard Nate Berkus is engaged to his boyfriend Jeremiah Brent.
According to People magazine , the couple, who have been dating for almost nine months, got engaged on Monday (April 8) while on vacation in Peru atop Machu Picchu.
Berkus “was the one to pop the question to Brent during their trip to Peru,” Nate’s rep confirmed to the magazine.
Per People , the pair was originally traveling as part of a shopping trip with One Kings Lane for a designer sale project Berkus is working on for the site. The proposal apparently completely caught Brent by surprise.
Brent tweeted Monday, “Machu Picchu @nate_berkus … #lifechanging #specialday.”
Berkus, 41, and Brent were first linked back in December 2012 after they were spotted “getting cozy” a Barney’s in New York City.
“They were kissing at the sunglass rack in the men’s section,” an eyewitness told New York Post’s Page Six at the time.
And after the word was out, the fashion-forward began to split their time between New York and Los Angeles.
Prior to his relationship with Brent, Berkus was linked to photographer Fernando Bengoechea, who tragically died in a 2004 tsunami while they were on vacation in Sri Lanka.
“You know I think about it all the time,” Berkus said in February in an interview with OWN. “Where would we be had he survived? Would we still be together? Would he have agreed with the decisions that I’ve made since then in life?
Berkus also dated footwear designer Brian Atwood from 2007 to 2009.
In addition to planning for a wedding, Nate Berkus is also busy with several different projects, including a home good line at Target and a book out entitled The Things That Matter .
