Kelly Rowland Talks A Good Game, Confirms Beyonce, Michelle Williams Collaboration
Kelly Rowland has revealed that her upcoming album,Talk A Good Game, will only consist of a dozen songs, but will also feature a collaboration with fellow Destiny’s Child group members Beyonce and Michelle Williams.
Rowland, whose 2011 album Here I Am topped the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, said, “I think I recorded around 70-something songs for this album. I had to narrow it down to 12 – you know hard that is!”
The singer added, “I kept going back and forth with my A&R and my manager, we’ve all been on this incredible journey together, and they’re just like ‘Save it for the next album!'”
About the song with Williams and Beyonce, Rowland said, “It’s not a Destiny’s Child track, it’s me featuring Beyonce and Michelle.” The song will be the trio’s first collaboration since the Pharrell Williams-produced “Nuclear” for the Destiny’s Child compilation Love Songs. The trio also performed together for the first time since 2006 during the Super Bowl XLVII half time show.
Talk A Good Game is set to be released on June 4, 2013. The first single, “Ice,” was released on August 24, 2012, and the second single, “Kisses Down Low,” was released on February 1, 2013. The album features a number of different songwriters and producers, including Rodney Jerkins, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Sean Garrett, The Runners, and others. The album also saw Rowland reunited with Lil Wayne for a third time on “Ice.” The two previous collaborated on the Destiny’s Child song “Soldier” and on Rowland’s song “Motivation.”
Kelly Rowland said the title track, “Talk A Good Game,” is one of her favorites on the album and doubles as an overarching theme.
“I decided to speak on what I was doing in my life. There’s so much talking and people gonna be like ‘Is she really talking about this on the album,'” she said. “Even down to things on ‘Kisses Down Low.’ People are like, ‘you’re talking a good game right now.’ I thought it would be really cool to name the album after those reactions.”
