Cause of death ruled for Brittany Murphy, Casey Johnson
Findings in the deaths of both actress Brittany Murphy and heiress Casey Johnson were released today by the LA Coroner.
Murphy’s death, deemed “preventable” by the L.A. County Coroner, was caused by severe anemia and community acquired pneumonia. Officials believe Murphy could have survived had she been treated for her illnesses in time. Several prescription and over-the-counter drugs were found in her system, which may have contributed to but did not cause her sudden demise. Murphy was 32 at the time of her death.
Casey Johnson’s death was ultimately ruled to be due to natural causes. Johnson’s death was also considered preventable, and official cause of death is listed as “diabetic ketoacidosis.” Johnson was diagnosed with diabetes as a child, and at the time of her death she was not following the regimen deemed necessary for her to remain healthy. Lack of insulin and dangerously high blood sugar proved lethal, and Johnson was reportedly not adhering to recommendations regarding diet, exercise and medication. Johnson was 30 when she was found dead in a friend’s guest house by a maid.
