‘Fast And Furious: Showdown’ Set For May Release

Fast and Furious: Showdown is set for release in late May.

The Fast and The Furious set the racing film genre ablaze with its innovative use of CG cars, Vin Diesel, and of course, the girls. And let us not forget the blur effect when major characters hit the NOS. The idea was influential enough that it redefined the norm for the Need for Speed videogame series from then on. However, the movie series has rarely had a memorable game based directly on it, and yes, some of us did play that minigame that you could access if you stuck the original movie in your computer’s DVD drive.

Preceding the release of Fast and Furious 6, Fast and Furious: Showdown may just be the movie tie-in we’ve been secretly waiting for. We can only hope that Vin Diesel’s likeness is at least comparable to the one in Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena, if it’s even included.

For some of us, 2 Fast 2 Furious was that moment in the series history that we didn’t consider part of the franchise due to Vin Diesel not being in it, so if he’s not in Fast and Furious: Showdown, some of us may not even consider it. It is known that the game will span the storylines of all six films, so nothing of the casting is known yet.

Activision is releasing Fast and Furious: Showdown on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii U and 3DS, and is expected to hit May 24. The game will feature the exotics cars the film series is known for, various gameplay modes such as hijacking, escort missions, getaways, and hopefully the classic duels the first film was known for. Customization of performance parts and the like is also said to be included. The game is expected to cost $39.99 on all platforms, and for that, we probably shouldn’t expect much, but who knows? Fast and Furious: Showdown might surprise us.
